Muhammad (s.a.w) was foretold by the ancient prophets. Zoroastrians, Hindus, Jews, and Christians had prophecies about him in their holy books1. There are many verses in the Bible which relate to him. One of them wherein Muhammad (s.a.w.) is mentioned by name is "song of songs" or "Solomon 5:16". In the Hebrew Bible, the word "Makhamadeem' " exists in this verse. In the English translation of the Bible this word is tampered with "altogether lovely". In the Concordance of the Bible2 the word is tampered with "makh-mawd' ".
Muhammad is a "Semitic" name. Both Arabic and Hebrew languages root from Semitic language. "Muhammad" is an Arabic pronunciation, whereas "Makhamadeem' " is a Hebrew pronunciation

The primitive
root of the word "Muhammad" is "hamd" in Arabic, and
"khaw-mad" in Hebrew. "Hamd" and "khaw-mad" mean
"greatly beloved". "Muhammad" means lovely; the most praised
one. In the
ancient copy of
the Old - Testament3, in
(Song of songs 5:16), Hebrew word
Bible2 . The Hebrew is read from right to left. The
Alphabet letters are all regarded as consonant, being enunciated by the aid of
certain "points" or marks, mostly beneath the letters, and which
serve as vowels. There is no distinction
of capitals, italics, etc.
Let's compare the Islamic perspective over Muhammad's appearance, with the Biblical view over the
"Beloved of Solomon" in (Song of solomon 5: 10-16). There are lots of similarities that we can easily accept that the beloved of king Solomon is Muhammad the prophet of Islam. Imam Ali (a.s.) the successor of prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.)
describes Muhammad (s.a.w.) as follows4:
He was neither tall and lanky nor short and stocky, but of medium height. His hair was neither crisply curled nor straight but moderately wavy. He was not overweight, and his face was not plump. He had a round face. His complexion was white tinged with reddishness. He had big black eyes with long lashes. His bones were heavy and his shoulders broad. He had soft skin, with fine hair covering the line from mid chest to naval. The palms of his hands and the soles of his feet were firmly padded. He walked with a firm gait, as if striding downhill. On his back between his shoulders lay the seal of prophethood, for he was the last of the prophets.
He was the most generous of men in feeling, the most truthful in speech, the gentlest in disposition, and the noblest in lineage. At first encounter people were awestruck by him, but on closer acquaintance they would come to love him. One who sought to describe him could only say, "Neither before him nor after him did I ever see the like of him."
O Allah, bless and salute the prophet of Mercy, the intercessor of the community, Muhammad and his progeny and all the prophets and messengers.
His being was of light; he had no shadow. His beautiful face shown like the Sun and radiated light around him. At night people saw by this light. It is written in the Holy Qur'an that in the darkness of the Day of Last judgment the light of faith of the believers is going to illuminate the space around them, and the hypocrites, envious, will come close to them to profit from this light.
Muhammad was pleasant and beautifully fragrant. His blessed body smelled more beautiful than the pink rose of May. When he caressed the head of a child or held some one's hand, his fragrance remained for a long time. People knew where he had passed because his fragrance lingered in the air. His wives put his perspiration upon themselves as the best of perfumes.
Muhammad (s.a.w.) is the seal of the prophets, with whom all prophethood is fulfilled (Qur'an 33: 40)5.
In (Song of songs 5: 10 - 16), king Solomon introduces his beloved as follows:
Beloved
10 - My Lover is radiant and ruddy, outstanding among ten thousand.
11 - His head is purest gold; his hair is wavy and black as a raven.
12 - His eyes are like doves, by the water streams, washed in milk, mounted like jewels.
13 - His cheeks are like beds of spice, yielding perfume. His lips are like lilies dripping with myrrh.
14 - His arms are rods of gold set with chrysolite. His body is like polished ivory decorated with sapphires.
15 - His legs are pillars of marble, set on bases of pure gold. His appearance is like Lebanon, choice as its cedars.
16 - His mouth is sweetness itself; he is altogether lovely. This is my lover, this my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.
Now I compare The sayings of Imam Ali (a.s.) and Solomon:
In verse 11, "purest gold head" is "radiating face" of Muhammad (s.a.w.).
" " 12, "eyes like doves" are "big black eyes" of him.
" " 13 "cheeks like beds of spice" are "beautifully fragrant" cheeks of him.
" " 14 "body decorated with sapphires" is his " back with the seal of prophethood on it".
" " 15 "pillars of marble set on bases of pure gold" is "pillars of Islamic believes set on bases of the pure truth",
Lebanon is the range of mountains where Hira cave is. Muhammad (s.a.w.) went to the cave of Hira every year for one month, and was with God in His mysteries and in prayer. At the age of forty, while busy in worship in the cave of Hira, he was elevated to the station of Prophethood. For three years the Prophet of Islam (s.s.) received no command to call people openly to Islam, and during that time only a few people had faith in Muhammad (s.a.). Among men, the first person who loved and followed him was Hazrat 'Ali (a.s.), and among women, Khadijah (his wife). Then after three years he received the command to invite people openly to Islam, and he called his close family to be his guests; about forty of these people assembled together.
In verse 16, the word "altogether lovely" is a wrong translation. The correct word is "Honourable Muhammad" as I mentioned before. The Hebrew pronunciation of this verse is as follows:
Hikko Mamittadim Vilullo Makhamadeem' Zehdudi Vezem Raai Benote Yapus Halam.
The English translation thereof is as follows:-
His mouth is most sweet; yea, he is Muhammad altogether lovely. This is my beloved and this is my friend. O daughter of Jerusalem.
King Solomon has named the prophet: that was to come "Makhamadeem' ". In Hebrew the suffix " eem' " is used to express respect as the term " el-o'-ah " which means "God" is mentioned in Bible as " el-o-heem' " . It is thus clear that Solomon has quite distinctly mentioned the name of the Prophet that was to come as " Muhammad ". But an error is made, intentionally by translation of the proper name as "Altogether lovely". Even the translation "Altogether lovely" is a befitting attribute of the Holy prophet, as mentioned in the words of Islamic sayings (Hadith).
If you refer to the ancient books about prophecies of the Old and New Testaments (the copies which are not tampered), you will find why Christian scholars have been trying to confuse the readers about prophecies of The Bible about prophet Muhammad!
One reason is that the Jews, the Christians and the followers of other religions were watching out for the advent of Islam. Some of the Jews had even found, through much searching, a place between the hills 'Ayr and Uhud which were named in their own books as the 'centre of Islamic rule', and migrated there, waiting for the advent of Islam6. Verses (VII, 157), (XLVIII; 29), (LXI; 6); (II; 146); (VI; 20), (II; 89), (CX; 2); (II; 89); (II; 90) of The Holy Qur'an5 is a testimony to the truth of these facts, that the Torah and the Injil (The Evangel) had given news of the advent of the prophet of Islam.
The following verses of the Bible refer to the advent of Islam and prophecies about the splendor of all prophets and the last one, Muhammad (s.a.w.):
